AQUABLOK

AquaBlok® is a patented, composite particle technology with a central core that is most often stone or aggregate, and an outer coating that is usually bentonite and polymers. Though, other material can be used for the outer coating. It is used primarily for sealing applications where regular bentonite or other products are difficult to apply. It was originally developed as an underwater sealant for contaminated sediments. Since then it has been adapted for many uses such as:

• Contaminated sediment capping
• Well sealing and grouting
• Lake and pond leak sealant
• Landfill cap repairs
• Bedding material for methane gas piping
• Annular fill for vertical wall penetrations
• Pipe seals and anti-seep collars
• Dam and levee repairs
• Waterproofing

In 2008 the USEPA published a 3 year evaluation of AquaBlok in its Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation Report (SITE) program in which it evaluated and compared AquaBlok to conventional sediment remediation methods like sand capping. The USEPA concluded that AquaBlok was a superior method of capping sediments.
