Description: The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) is a 3.5 mile roadway tunnel under the Hampton Roads Harbor that connects Hampton, VA and Norfolk, VA. The $3.9 billion HRBT Expansion project started construction in 2020 and reached substantial completion in 2027, now serving over 140,000 cars a day. The Runnel Boring Machine, “Mary” moved more than 1.5 million cubic yards of soil during the boring for the expansion tunnels.
